Principles, like that of education, require discipline. In order to maintain these disciplines, you must have accountability in your thoughts & actions. As servants to this community, we must understand that we are continuously in the public eye and under scrutiny, and must respect our various roles/responsibilities, whether we like it or not. Such as it is with providing our services to the community-at-large, we must strive to meet our obligations with honor, integrity, and diligence so that we may work cooperatively to create an ever-improving atmosphere of excellence here at MCC.

  2. Why not call this one "Service"? Or "Excellence"? Then accountability would be a support to the core principle, rather than the goal. In order to provide the best service, people and programs should be tracked and accountable; but accountability is not the true goal - excellent service is.

So this could read something like: "Service - To promote a campus culture of fiscal, social, professional, and individual excellence"(the word responsible/responsibility could fit in there too). Again, tracking people and programs is just a means to an end; not a goal in itself.

  3. There should be some mention of ethics, or etical responsibility here. The community and other stakeholders are concerned about things that have occured at MCC that are ethically borderlines at best. What better way to reassure stakeholders of our commitment to accountability than to reiterate our commitment to making ethical decisions?

  4. This definition is powerful as written.

  5. I like this as written. Accountability is important, especially given the recent issues related to less than integrous operation in the business sector.

  6. I'm all for world-class service and accountability. I think we all know that this means. When you have a problem and you contact customer service or some other department in an organization to help solve your problem, I think you know if that standard has been met.

In my short time here, I have seen short comings in this key area in response time. People don't return your calls or emails either in a timely manner or not at all. We have a way to go on this issue. In such cases, I would like to add a rule: One must respond within 24 hours of a request and follow-up within 48 hours if they can't solve the problem at first. On going measurement should also be added to see who is meeting this standard and who is not.

  7. To promote a service-oriented campus culture of fiscal, social, professional, and individual responsibility. ......

I think that we should be putting more emphasis on social and professional accountability and responsibility. Having come from the corporate world to the education world I notice that the Professionalism we should be presenting is sometimes lacking and that by promoting education and instruction of proper social techniques, we will improve both professional and social inadequecies and improve our service and responsibilities to our students and each other.

  8. I agree with the following statements:

"So this could read something like: "Service - To promote a campus culture of fiscal, social, professional, and individual excellence"(the word responsible/responsibility could fit in there too). Again, tracking people and programs is just a means to an end; not a goal in itself."

    and

"There should be some mention of ethics, or etical responsibility here. The community and other stakeholders are concerned about things that have occured at MCC that are ethically borderlines at best. What better way to reassure stakeholders of our commitment to accountability than to reiterate our commitment to making ethical decisions?"

I also think this idea - "In my short time here, I have seen short comings in this key area in response time. People don't return your calls or emails either in a timely manner or not at all. We have a way to go on this issue. In such cases, I would like to add a rule: One must respond within 24 hours of a request and follow-up within 48 hours if they can't solve the problem at first. On going measurement should also be added to see who is meeting this standard and who is not." - is a good one for how to maeasure our goals, and I actually would argue that this may be a part of our "quality" measure as well.

  9. It might be better to simply say, "To promote a campus culture based on professional respect of staff, students and the community." The level of arrogance, gossip and disrespect toward fellow staff members in this institution is legendary and has gone on for the past 15-years. This needs to change if this college is going to be as respected as it should be.

  10. Given that MCC is a publicly supported institution, I believe that accountability and ethics are fundamental. The lack of accountability and integrity over the past few years has lead to a series of embarrassing events that the taxpayers (and most of the employees) neither deserve nor appreciate. MCC can do better than that.

  11. I too like, "Service - to promote a campus culture of fiscal, social, professional, and individual excellence"

    and add something about ethics:

    "driven by strong ethical principles."

  12. Accountability is the key. Keep accountability as the core principle, and build the concept of service into that.

  13. Including ethics here seems good.

    What about:

"To promote a service-oriented and ethical campus culture of fiscal, social, professional, and individual responsibility."

  14. We must be accountable to our community about how we use our resources to be environmentally conscious and good stewards. A conscious effort in this area addresses fiscal and social accountability.
